Jewelry Care
Gold Filled is a layer gold pressure bonded to a base metal, typically brass. It's becoming a popular alternative to solid gold, because it's more durable, more affordable, and versatile for different lifestyles and activities.
MOST people will tell you "gold-filled will never tarnish, and it lasts forever", and although that's certainly achievable, it definitely varies from person to person. My gold-filled jewelry can certainly last a lifetime. But can and will are two distinct things.
The fact is that there are a variety of things that can affect your jewelry. Your lifestyle for instance plays a BIG role in how long your gold filled piece will last.
I'm confident that my gold-filled jewelry is of best quality, so therefore I'm not afraid of being transparent with you about the longevity and performance of your piece.
Know what causes tarnish: 18k gold-filled can certainly last a lifetime WHEN taking proper care of.
Gold Filled can last many years. But I've done a little bit of digging so you wouldn't have to and found that when left on the surface, some chemicals will cause your jewelry to tarnish. There is a lot of chemicals in everything including your body!
Heres a few things that cause tarnish:
- Pools & Hot Tubs: PLEASE DON'T WEAR YOUR JEWELRY IN POOLS OR HOT TUBS! There's so much killing bacteria chemicals in there that don't mix well with your gold.
- Body Chemistry: people's hormones are different and therefore it's difficult to nail down but the truth is that for some people their gold piece will tarnish more quickly.
Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing until you try it. For most people, gold filled will be a PERFECT fit but for some not so much.
3. Getting Sweaty: There is a lot of chemicals in your sweat, and depending on your personal body chemistry (medications you take), it could affect your piece. I've had mine for months and I sweat so much at the gym and it has never tarnished. But once again, everyone is different!
4. Products: Perfume, hairspray, lotions and worst of all, sunscreen! Try to avoid wearing these over or directly on your jewelry piece.
Overall, taking good care of your jewelry is really the best thing you can do to keep it shiny and sparkly!
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELRY PIECE?
After each wear, gently remove any makeup and oils from your piece with a soft cloth, like a lens cloth or jewelry cloth if you have one. You can also rinse it with warm water and dry it with a soft cloth. Taking it off before to go to sleep will help it last longer.
If you get your piece caked in lotion, sunscreen or any product, you may need to deep clean it right away to keep it clean and shiny.
You can clean it in a bowl with warm water with gentle soap or mild dish soap and scrub it with a soft toothbrush. Then you may need to rinse well a few times to make sure all the soap came off, dry it well and make sure to store in a dry place.
Regardless of your lifestyle and how careful you are with your jewelry, it still needs to be cleaned. With simple daily maintenance and occasional deep clean, your piece will retain its shine!
